Obama administration sues to block Arizona anti-immigrant law
The Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against Arizona over SB1070, the state's controversial anti-immigration law.

The lawsuit contends the law, which allows state police officers to ask about a person's immigration status, is unconstitutional. The Obama administration says SB1070 will interfere with federal and local law enforcement efforts and harm public safety.

"The Constitution and the federal immigration laws do not permit the development of a patchwork of state and local immigration policies throughout the country," the complaint stated.

The Tohono O'odham Nation, the Navajo Nation and the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona oppose the law. They say it interferes with their sovereignty and will lead to discrimination against tribal members who might resemble people from other countries.
