Tex Hall, a former president of the National Congress of American Indians, is running for chairman of the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation of North Dakota.

Hall previously led the tribe for two terms. He was defeated in 2006 by current chairman Marcus Levings, who decided to run for a second term after saying he wasn't going to.

"I am running because the people have asked me to," Hall said in a press release.   "They don’t feel represented and they don’t feel like they have a say anymore and they want reform.  I am running to change that, and bring back respect and integrity to the Chairman’s office."

Hall said he would focus on energy issues and constitutional reforms if elected.
