The New Brunswick Liberal Party wants the Maliseet and Mi'kmaq languages to be taught in provincial schools.
The party says Native languages should be included in the curriculum at every grade.
"The Mi'kmaq and Maliseet culture and language are an important part of what defines New Brunswick," Liberal leader Shawn Graham said in a statement.
In an analysis for CBC News, Andrea Bear Nicholas, the chair of native studies at St. Thomas University, said the Canadian education system contributed to the demise of Native languages.
