Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe obtains $12.7M loan for headquarters
The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts will use a $12.7 million loan from the Department of Agriculture to build a new headquarters.

The 40,000-square-foot building will house administrative offices, a health clinic, a tribal court, a gymnasium, a library, a function hall and a lounge for tribal elders. Groundbreaking is expected later this winter or in early spring 2010.

"We are definitely excited to move forward with this," Chairman Cedric Cromwell told The Cape Cod Times. "We can unify our services and have a meeting place — it's a dream. It's really something to be proud of."

The facility will be located in the town of Mashpee, where the tribe owns land that is the subject of a pending land-into-trust application.
