US Attorney in Arizona changes policy in reservation crime cases
The new federal prosecutor for Arizona wants to make decisions on Indian Country crime in a more timely manner.

Within 30 days of a criminal referral, U.S. Attorney David Burke said his office will decide whether to prosecute the case, decline it or seek more information.

"When I came into this office, there were these cases literally sitting there for months and months without a decision," Burke told USA Today.

Historically, prosecutors have declined more than half of the Indian Country cases referred to them. The new Tribal Law and Order Act requires the Department of Justice to provide data on the declinations.
