A 47-year-old Metis man died on Monday from injuries he suffered after being set on fire in an alley in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Gerald Dumas suffered serious burns on his body and head during the attack on September 10. He had regained consciousness after being hospitalized but lost consciousness again and was unable to recover.

Gaston Leroy Genaille, 19, now faces upgraded charges in connection with the incident. He has already been indicted for aggravated assault.

Gerald Dumas was the uncle of Matthew Dumas, the 18-year-old who was shot and killed by a Winnipeg officer in February 2005.
