Obama to sign bill with Cobell settlement into law on Wednesday
President Barack Obama will sign H.R.4783, the Claims Settlement Act of 2010 on Wednesday.

The bill authorizes the $3.4 billion settlement to the Indian trust fund lawsuit. The deal provides $1.5 billion in payments to individual Indians and creates a $1.9 billion land consolidation fund.

"We still have work to do," lead plaintiff Elouise Cobell, a member of the Blackfeet Nation, told the Associated Press. "One thing about this case, it hasn't been easy. You don't take anything for granted. You make sure it all gets approved."

The plaintiffs expect payments to start flowing to individual Indians in fall of 2011.
