Sen. Murkowski officially sworn in after legal battles end in Alaska

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) was officially sworn into her second full term in the Senate on Wednesday.

Murkowski was successful in her historic write-in campaign last November. Litigation by her challenger Joe Miller, who won the Republican primary, put a cloud over her victory but he announced he was dropping his case last week.

Murkowski was the first woman and the first Alaskan to serve as vice chair of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee. She helped pass the Indian Health Care Improvement Act and the Tribal Law and Order Act in the 111th Congress.
