Opening briefs due in Oneida Nation foreclosure case next week

The 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals is taking opening briefs in the Oneida Nation foreclosure case.

The tribe is trying to prevent Oneida County and Madison County from foreclosing on its land. The case was due to go before the U.S. Supreme Court but it was sent back to the 2nd Circuit after the tribe waived its sovereign immunity with respect to foreclosure proceedings.

The briefs are due January 26. The 2nd Circuit hasn't set a date for arguments but The Oneida Dispatch said the hearing will take place in New York City.
