Six Republicans on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs Subcommittee

Six Republicans have been named to the new Subcommittee on Indian and Alaska Native Affairs.

Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) will serve as chairman. Joining him on the subcommittee are: Rep. Jeff Denham (R-California); Rep. Daniel Benishek (R-Michigan); Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Arizona); Rep. Raúl Labrador (R-Idaho) and Rep. Kristi Lynn Noem (R-South Dakota).

With the exception of Young, who has a favorable record on Indian issues, all of the members are newcomers to Congress. All voted last week to repeal the national heatlh reform law that includes the Indian Health Care Improvement Act.

Rep. Doc Hastings (R-Washington), the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee, will serve ex-officio on the subcommittee.
