Veterans Affairs establishes Office of Tribal Government Relations

The
Department of Veterans Affairs
has created a new Office of Tribal Government Relations.
The office will assist American Indian, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian veterans. "There is a long, distinguished tradition of military service among tribal peoples,” Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K. Shinseki said in a press release.
Stephanie Elaine Birdwell, a member of the
Cherokee Nation
, will serve as director of the office. She most recently worked at the
Bureau of Indian Education
.
