Column: Redding Rancheria putting own stamp on new golf resort

"Nearly four months after getting into the golf business, Redding Rancheria is putting its stamp on River Bend Golf Club.

The transition has not been without its bumps.

The course, now called River Tasalmi to reflect the oak-studded layout (tasalmi is Wintu for oak), is determining what to do about its general manager/head pro job. This comes roughly a week after losing the first GM the tribe hired.

Bill Malone had been on the job for about a month. The 50-year-old's final day was March 4.

I interviewed Malone about three days before his last day, and was ready to feature him in last week's "Buzz" when I got the news he was gone.

Rancheria officials declined to say why Malone is no longer employed at the course."
