County considers bill to transfer land to Onondaga Nation

The Onondaga County Legislature is considering a bill that would lead to the transfer of land to the Onondaga Nation in New York.

The tribe wants to reclaim the 36-acre Murphy's Island, on the Onondaga Lake shoreline. The site is considered sacred because the Peacemaker traveled across the lake to the area.

If the county approves the bill, the county would need the state's approval to transfer the property because it's currently designated as park land.
