Cherokee Nation shares $2.7M from car tags with schools

The Cherokee Nation shared $2.7 million in car tag revenue with schools in northeastern Oklahoma.

The money went to 94 schools in the tribe's 14-county area. "Obviously, the funding is really important now with all the budget-tightening," Charlene Carter, the superintendent of the Moseley School, told The Tulsa World.

Under the car tag program, 38 percent of revenues go to schools. Since 2002, the tribe has shared nearly $22 million.
