Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes announce plan for wind farm

The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma plan to open a wind farm in early 2012.

Plans call for 22 100-kilowatt turbines to be placed on tribal land. Two turbines will power the tribe's smoke shop and headquarters and the remaining 20 will power the Lucky Star Casino.

"We believe the wind is sacred," Gov. Janice Boswell said in a press release, the Associated Press reported. "We are the Keepers of the Earth, so bringing the power of wind to our people is key to our survival and a part of honoring our instructions."
