Nebraska lawmakers weigh bill on tribal tobacco compacts

Nebraska lawmakers are considering a bill that would authorize tobacco compact with tribes.

LB590 creates a process to negotiate tax compacts. It was developed after tribes objected to an earlier version that would have outright forced them to pay taxes to the state.

The bill advanced by a 38-0 vote yesterday. Two more rounds of consideration are needed.
