Regional leader of white supremacist group killed at home

A leader of a white supremacist group was killed at his home in southern California and authorities have taken his young son into custody.

Jeff Hall, 32, was a regional director for the National Socialist Movement. He was shot and killed on Sunday, a day after a reporter for The New York Times covered one of the group's meetings.

The paper said Hall's 10-year-old son was being detained. Authorities haven't said whether the shooting was accidental.

Hall ran for a seat on the Western Riverside Municipal Water District Board last November. He lost but still garnered more than 25 percent of the vote, The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported.
