Cheyenne-Arapaho governor battles to maintain leadership

The governor of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma is fighting to maintain her leadership position.

Janet Boswell was elected in January 2010. But her running mate, Lt. Gov. Leslie Harjo, claims to be in power.

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has waded into the dispute. The regional director for the Southern Plains Office recognized Boswell as governor but the decision is being reconsidered.

Meanwhile, the superintendent for the Concho Agency has recognized the tribe's court, whose judges apparently have removed Boswell from office. Boswell is appealing the decision, saying it could conflict with the outcome of the regional director's reconsideration.
