Grand Traverse Band cuts budget amid national recession

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians of Michigan has weathered the economic recession but the tribe has cut its budget to save costs.

In 2005, the budget was $51 million. Last year it was down to $40 million.

The drop came amid a modest increase in tribal revenues. In 2005, the tribe's Economic Development Corporation took in $115.4 million. In 2010, the tribe took in $116.1 million.
