Special prosecutor searches Navajo Nation financial offices

A special prosecutor hired by the Navajo Nation Council searched two offices of the Navajo Nation government, The Navajo Times reports.

Alan Balaran obtained a warrant in tribal court to search the Office of the Controller and the Office of Management and Budget. The court's order cited an investigation into "breaches of fiduciary duty, misrepresentation, breach of contract, civil conspiracy, account and conversion."

"We have nothing to hide," Controller Mark Gran told the paper. "We're just trying to manage the finances for the tribe as best as we can."

Last year, Balaran investigated numerous tribal council delegates for alleged misuse of funds. Some of them settled their cases by repaying the tribe.
