Leech Lake Band due in court over reservation power line

The Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Indians in Minnesota will be in court next Friday over a power line that crosses the reservation.

The tribe opposes the $107 million line. But five utilities say the tribe lacks power to stop the project because they say it doesn't affect trust land or allotted land.

In the meantime, the tribe asked the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission to revoke the permit for the project. The commission said it couldn't take action without holding public hearings.
