St. Regis Mohawk Tribe chooses another chief for its council

Members of the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York elected a new chief to the council.

Ronald W. LaFrance Jr.., 46, defeated two candidates for the post, according to unofficial results. He will join the two other chiefs on the council -- Mark Garrow and Randy Hart.

"I've always been involved in politics," LaFrance told Johnson Newspapers. "I grew up with that kind of thinking."

LaFrance replaces Monica Jacobs, who decided not to seek re-election.
