Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes leadership dispute continues

Members of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma held a protest outside a Bureau of Indian Affairs office on Tuesday to pressure the agency to resolve a leadership dispute.

Gov. Janice Boswell has remained in office amid attempts to remove her. She's trying to appeal a BIA decision that cold lead to her ouster.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gov. Leslie Harjo claims she is in charge. Her supporters protested at the BIA office in Anadarko but an official there suggested it might be better for the agency to stay out of the matter.

"We hope that maybe some change or understanding will come about to resolve the dispute within the tribe," Terry Bruner, a deputy regional director in the Southern Plains Office, told the Associated Press.
