Lumbee Tribe holds ceremony for first 'Miss Chief' in history

The Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina held an inauguration for Sharon Hunt on Tuesday.

Hunt is the first woman to lead the tribe since the Lumbee was established in 2001. She drew applause when she jokingly referred to herself as "Miss Chief."

Hunt took over after the sudden resignation of Purnell Swett on May 23. The tribe plans to hold a special election for a new chair but a date hasn't been set.
