Four public schools on reservations in Montana saw their test scores improve with the help of the Schools of Promise program.

The Frazer High School, Lodge Grass High School, Plenty Coups High School and Lame Deer High School received a share of federal funds from the program. With some changes in administration and schooling, reading scores jumped from 44 percent of students proficient to 60 percent while math scores jumped from 38 percent proficient to 60 percent.

"It was really great. We were really proud of our schools," Montana Superintendent Denise Juneau told The Great Falls Tribune.

The state received $11.6 million in federal funds for the program.
