Record number of Pyramid Lake Paiute youth going to college

The Pyramid Lake Pyramid Tribe of Nevada is sending a record number of students from its reservation school to college.

Of the 11 graduates of the Pyramid Lake Junior/Senior High School, eight are continuing their education. That's a big change from just a few years ago when only about half of the class secured their diplomas.

"In the last couple of years we're seeing more kids going to college," Principal Randy Melendez told The Reno Gazette-Journal.

The school is part of the Bureau of Indian Education.
