Teenage boy charged for murder of young Metis father in Alberta

A 16-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the death of Bruce Dumais, 22, who was from the Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement in Alberta.

Dumais grew up in Buffalo Lake but moved to Edmonton about a year ago. He was a young father of two girls.

"They're still like too young to understand," Dumais' mother, Eileen Dumais, told CBC of her grandchildren. "They just know that daddy's in heaven with angels. And they were number one. His kids were number one. They came first, before anything else in the world."

The boy was charged with second-degree murder and possession of a weapon. Dumais was stabbed to death on June 19.

The boy is reportedly from the Saddle Lake Cree Nation.
