Cousins claim to be the rightful chairman of Yankton Sioux Tribe

Two men who are first cousins are claiming to be the rightful leader of Yankton Sioux Tribe of South Dakota.

Thurmond Cournoyer was elected chairman on September 1. But Robert Cournoyer, who was chairman for six years, says he's still in charge.

“It’s debatable right now,” Thurmond Cournoyer told The Mitchell Daily Republic.

Thurmond says he was sworn in last Wednesday. Robert says he will remain in power until September 30.
