The Meadow Lake Tribal Council, which represents nine First Nations, has reached an agreement to sell power from a a $150-million biomass power plant.

The First Nations will build the plant and sell the power to SaskPower. The agreement lasts 25 years.

"We're delighted. We are very excited about this," Ben Voss, the CEO of MLTC Resource Development, told The Saskatoon StarPhoenix.

The Meadow Lake Bioenergy Centre will use wood byproducts to generate up to 36 megawatts of power. The project is expected to go online in 2014.

“The Meadow Lake Bioenergy Center is a very significant milestone for the business development vision of Meadow Lake Tribal Council,” Chief Eric Sylvestre said in a press release.
