Moapa Band sues to stop expansion of landfill at power plant

The Moapa Band of Paiute Indians and the Sierra Club filed a lawsuit on Monday aimed at stopping the expansion of a landfill at a power plant next to the reservation.

The Southern Nevada Health District approved a permit for the expansion over the objections of the tribe. Reservation residents deal with air and water pollution from the site every day.

"When the wind blows from the south, the ash blows into the homes and the hair and the food of my clients," attorney Dan Galpern told The Las Vegas Review-Journal.

NV Energy operates the power plant.
