Robinson Rancheria chairwoman due to enter plea in theft

Tracey Isabelle Avila, the chairwoman of the Robinson Rancheria Pomo Indians of California, is due to enter a plea on theft charges.

Avila has been charged in state court with one count of felony grand theft. She is accused of stealing more than $60,000 from the Elem Pomo Tribe, where she once worked as fiscal officer.

Avila appeared in court this week for an arraignment hearing, The Lake County Record-Bee reported. Her plea is due next Tuesday, the paper said.

Avila lost her re-election bid in 2008 but has held onto power. The Bureau of Indian Affairs has told her to schedule a new election.
