Column: Oglala Pet Project helps animals on the reservation

"What I do know is this: I admire people such as Andrea Goodman and Darcy Adams, who have started a project to give unwanted pets a better life.

In fact, the Oglala Pet Project website indicates their work will benefit the Oglala people and their pets through humane education focused on proper pet care, dog bite prevention, and the importance of spaying/neutering.

The project makes a case for good basic pet care such as vaccinations, plus flea, tick and mange treatment. There’s also a food bank and a network to place abandoned, abused and unwanted pets on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation into permanent homes.

Goodman doesn’t have a permanent facility for surrendered or abandoned pets on her ranch east of Kyle, which already has a menagerie that include dairy goats, chickens and dogs and cats."
