Fort Mojave Tribal Band to be featured in new documentary

The Fort Mojave Tribal Band will be featured in a new documentary called Sousa on the Rez: Marching to the Beat of a Different Drum.

Members of the Fort Mojave Tribe started the band in 1906. It is one of the oldest surviving Indian marching bands in the U.S.

"We use music as a vehicle to break down discrimination, to show and demonstrate that Native Americans are not uncivilized or uneducated," band spokesperson Steve Lopez told The Mohave Daily News.

The Iroquois Indian Band also will be featured in the 30-minute documentary, whose makers are raising money through Kickstarter to complete the film.
