Reputed Native gang member convicted of murder in Alberta

A suspected Native gang member was found guilty for the May 2010 death of Heather Rae Thurier, a Native woman who lived in Edmonton, Alberta.

Colton Ferguson, 21, was charged with first-degree murder. But since his crime wasn't premeditated, the judge said he was guilty of second-degree murder.

Ferguson did not know Thurier, 23, until they got into an altercation at a train station. He was wearing clothes associated with Redd Alert, a Native gang, and he reportedly flashed gang signs in an attempt to intimidate Thurier.

Ferguson will be sentenced March 18.
