Tribes increase contributions to President Obama's campaign

Tribes so far have donated more than $1 million to help re-elect President Barack Obama, USA Today reports.

The amount is far greater than the $264,000 that tribes gave in 2008. And it dwarfs the $3,000 total that Republican Mitt Romney has received from ust two tribes.

"When a man gives his word and keeps his word, that's real important to Indian Country," Tulalip Tribes Chairman Melvin Sheldon told USA Today of Obama. "We didn't merit much consideration from previous administrations."
