The Crow Tribe of Montana is still recovering from major floods that hit the reservation a year ago.

Hundreds of people were forced to evacuate after floods destroyed hundreds of homes and buildings. “Oh my gosh, it was just devastating," Elsie Half told The Billings Gazette.

Half and her family saw major damage to their home. They camped in a tent on their land and used $8,000 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for repairs.

"FEMA has helped tremendously,” Kim Not Afraid, who works in the tribe's finance department, told the paper. “We got the money fast. There were no problems at all.”

The tribe has spent more than $520,000 to repair some of its property and to pay emergency workers. Housing costs aren't included in that figure
