Commerce Secretary John Bryson takes leave after hit-and-run

John Bryson, the Secretary of the Department of Commerce, is taking an indefinite medical leave after suffering a seizure while being involved in a series of hit-and-run accidents in California.

Bryson is relatively new to the Obama administration, having been confirmed in October 2011. One of his first actions after taking office was to appoint Dee Alexander, a member of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, as his senior adviser for Native American Affairs.

Bryson made his first appearance before the National Congress of American Indians this past March.
