A non-Indian woman has opened a new store in Whiteclay, Nebraska, in hopes of improving relations with members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.
KC Willis says the LightShine Thrift Store will offer tribal members convenient access to clothes, shoes, furniture, books and other items that aren't readily available on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
She hopes to change the image of Whiteclay as being a place where people come to find alcohol.
“I’ve been coming to Pine Ridge for a year,” Willis told the Associated Press. “Over the course of that year, I began to realize there was no place on the rez for people to get the essentials, at least on the southern half."
