Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico says being the first "MainStreet" in Indian Country will promote economic development on the reservation.

The reservation is a tourist attraction and tribal members are well known for their arts and crafts. The MainStreet designation will help promote the local economy, Gov. Arlen Quetawki, Sr., said.

“We believe that this grass-roots type of economic development fully matches our community’s needs, which is based on small, individual cottage arts production," Quetawki said, The Cibola Beacon reported.

The MainStreet helps communities promote their commercial districts.
