Umatilla Tribes work to boost lamprey runs in Columbia River

The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation in Oregon are using a $100,000 grant to increase runs of lamprey in the Columbia River.
Tribal members have eaten the eel-like lamprey for thousands of years but numbers have fallen due to dams on the river and due to pollution.
The grant from the Bonneville Power Administration will help determine how to improve fish runs.
"Our plan is to think seven generations ahead," Jerrid Weaskus, the tribe's lamprey technician, told The Everett Herald. "That's what this is all about."
