Navajo Nation investigates accident involving telecom firm

Tribal, federal and state authorities are investigating a workplace incident on the Navajo Nation.

The Navajo Nation Tribal Utility Authority hired L&B Telecommunications to build a cell phone tower near Farmington, New Mexico. Sammy Pacheco, 51, was injured when the tower collapsed and fell on him.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Pacheco family," NTUA spokesperson Deenise Becenti told The Farmington Daily Times.

Julius Elwood, the director of the Navajo Nation Occupational Safety and Health Administration, said L&B has a history of incidents on the reservation. The company is based in Mississippi.
