South Dakota tribes received $101M for trust fund settlements





Four South Dakota tribes have settled their trust fund lawsuits for a total of $101.4 million, The Mitchell Daily Republic reports.

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe received $48.9 million, the largest of the four reported settlements. The Rosebud Sioux Tribe received $20 million, the Lower Brule Sioux Tribe received $18 million and the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe received $14.5 million.

The settlements are the latest from the Obama administration. This year alone, the federal government has settled lawsuits with 65 tribes for a total of $1.7 billion.
