Yaqui Tribe challenges aqueduct under construction in Mexico

The Yaqui Tribe in Mexico is battling an aqueduct that will take water from their homeland.

The aqueduct is already under construction but the Yaqui hope they can stop it. The tribe has won one court decision, The New York Times reports, and local farmers are also fighting the project.

“They’re taking water from one river valley to supply another,” one farmer told the Times.

The aqueduct will supply water to Hermosillo, a quickly growing city 175 miles away.
