Mohegan Tribe entered confidentiality agreement with developer

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut entered into a confidentiality agreement with the developers of a proposed housing project on a sacred site, The New London Day reports.

Vladimir "Vlad" and Drzislav "Dado" Coric plan a 120-unit housing project on property that belonged to Uncas, who led the tribe in the 1600s during the Pequot War and King Philip's War. The brothers offered to sell the land to the tribe, which prompted Chairman Bruce "Two Dogs" Bozsum to accuse them of hosting the site "hostage."

The Corics confirmed talks but said the two sides never agreed on a price. The confidentiality agreement, however, remains in place.

"The fact that was mentioned has put us in an awkward position," Chuck Bunnell, the tribe's chief of staff for external affairs, told The New London Day.

The developer is seeking $19 million in federal loans for the project. The Department of Housing and Urban Development has been consulting the tribe.
