Authorities search for clues on Indian woman who was scalped

Authorities in Kentucky are trying to find out information about an Indian woman who was shot to death and scalped.

The woman's remains were found about a year ago in a remote area about 95 miles south of Louisville. Authorities believe she died sometime between 1999 and 2010 but they don't have much to go on besides that.

“We’re pretty sure of her ancestry," a doctor who examined the woman told the Associated Press. The woman could have been between the ages of 25 and 50 and was at least 5 feet 9 inches tall, possibly taller.

Authorities are checking dental records to see if there's a match. DNA testing might be possible but no sample has been extracted.

The case has been entered into the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.
