A man in the United Kingdom who was adopted as an infant has contributed to Two Worlds: Lost Children of the Indian Adoption Projects, a book that shares stories from Indian children who were taken from their reservations.
Johnathan Brooks, 48, grew up comfortably in California and England. But he didn't know anything about his Indian heritage until he tracked down his birth parents on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation in Montana.
"My new birth certificate showed the basic details, but the names of my natural parents were replaced by my adopted family," Brooks told The Kent and Sussex Courier. "That's how it was done, and my adopted parents knew hardly anything about my background."
Brooks hopes the book will help other Indian adoptees.
