Obama signs Minnesota Chippewa Tribe trust fund bill into law

President Barack Obama signed H.R.1272, the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe Judgment Fund Distribution Act, into law on Friday.

The bill distributes $28 million to the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe. The money comes from a judgment for land that was taken from the tribe by the federal government.

About $12 million will be distributed on a per capita basis to the 40,000-plus members of the tribe, so each person will get around $300. The remaining $16 million will be equally distributed to the six bands that make up the tribe.
