Leader of Saskatchewan First Nation removed for vote buying

The Canadian government has removed Elliott Kahpeaysewat as chief of the Moosomin First Nation in Saskatchewan.

The Department of Aboriginal Affairs said Kahpeaysewat bought votes for an election that took place in January. He allegedly paid between $20 and $50 for each vote, CBC News reported.

The First Nation could elect a new chief of leave the post vacant, the government said.
