Democrat Claire McCaskill of Missouri wins re-election to Senate

Democrat Claire McCaskill defeated Republican Todd Akin to win re-election for the U.S. Senate in Missouri.

The incumbent McCaskill initially faced a strong challenge from Akin, who represents Missouri's 2nd Congressional district. But his controversial comments about rape and gender left him in the dark as national Republicans abandoned his campaign.

McCaskill's win once again puts her in a position to scrutinize the 8(a) program. She has repeatedly questioned whether Alaska Native corporations should be receiving government contracts and has authored bills to restrict tribal participation in government contracting.
