Navajo Nation Council offers Internet streaming of fall session

For the first time, the Navajo Nation Council can be seen in action on the Internet.

The council began broadcasting its fall session on uStream. Tribal members across the world, as well as the general public, can view the proceedings without going to Window Rock, the capital of the Navajo Nation.

“All citizens are invited to this event, online or in person, as we celebrate this new communication achievement that will, indeed, elevate the caliber in which we connect the Diné people to their government and its critical discussions,” Council Speaker Johnny Naize said in a press release last month.

The new technology has already caused some grumbling. Viewers can offer commentary as they watch the session and some delegates have been upset by what has been posted.

"I'm not for setting something up that will promote disharmony and ill will toward people," delegate Leonard Tsosie, who criticized a tribal employee for commenting on the session, told the Associated Press.
